Steel Flanges

Type of Flanges

A flange is a method of connecting pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment to form a piping system. It also provides easy access for cleaning, inspection or modification. Flanges are usually welded or screwed. Flanged joints are made by bolting together two flanges with a gasket between them to provide a seal.

Weld Neck flange
Weld Neck Flange is circumferentially welded into the system at its neck. These flanges are bored to match the inside diameter of the mating pipe or fitting so there will be no restriction of product flow. This reduces turbulence at the joint and erosion. They also provide excellent stress distribution through the tapered hub and are easily radiographed for flaw detection.
Slip On flange
The pipe will be slipped into this flange and fillet welded. Additional 3mm space from the pipe is necessary, as it will prevent damages on the flange face during the welding process.
Socket Weld flange
Socket Weld flange was usually developed for the use on small-size high pressure piping. Their static strength is equal to Slip On flanges, but their fatigue strength 50% greater than double-welded Slip On flanges. The bore of the flange and the pipe are the same which therefore giving good flow characteristics.
Lap Joint flange
Lap Joint Flange is usually used with a stub end. The stud end will be inserted to the lap joint flange from behind, and the pipe will be welded to the stud end.
Threaded flange
Threaded Flange is used for special circumstances when there is restriction of the usage of welding. The pipe will be screwed into the flange.
Blind flange
Blind Flange is manufactured without a bore and used to blank off the ends of piping, Pumps, Valves and pressure vessel openings.
